Cater Plus are committed to supporting our staff, customers, and the nation as a whole during these challenging times. We have kitchens operating as essential services and are continuing to provide good, nutritious food, as well as a much-needed morale boost to our customers and residents.

As our staff continue their work on the front line it is our priority to ensure their health, safety and wellbeing, while providing a quality and uncompromised foodservice to those who need it.

Our commitment doesn’t end here. We are working hard behind the scenes to support our staff and their families outside of work, as well as the wider community. A focus on wellbeing through nutrition, exercise and communication is essential to boost immunity, and stay healthy and positive.

We have implemented additional measures to keep our staff and customers safe, including:
• An emphasis on personal hygiene, sanitisation and cleaning
• Physical distancing and minimising close contact between staff
• Limiting staff movement between sites
• Accepting contactless Eftpos payments only
• Communicating with all staff members daily
• Supporting staff of closed sites financially and emotionally
• Wellness tips and tricks

Our staff are our unsung heroes and we are proud of the contribution they are making as we face uncertain times. Stay safe and well New Zealand, together (but at least 2m apart) we can make a difference.


What are we doing differently?

The aim is still the same, to deliver the best food service in the industry but how we do this has changed. Measures have been put in place to make sure the produce we receive, the food we make and how we deliver this food is following strict safety standards and protocols.

• Our cleaning schedules are being thoroughly adhered to with extra emphasis around maintaining personal hygiene and the use of hand sanitisers for both staff and customers/residents.

• The revamp of sitting areas to less than 100 chairs.

• Adjustment of shift and task patterns to reduce close contact of staff i.e. breaks are taken at different times.

• Wrapping or packaging foods and increased cleaning of kitchen equipment such as tongs and serving utensils.

• The restriction of payment to Eftpos removing cash handling.

• Limitation of staff movement between sites

• Ministry of Health posters clearly displayed in kitchens to encourage employees to adopt physical distancing practices.


How can we keep our wellness in check?

Our daily lives look very different right now. The way in which we connect with others, stay active and work have changed and so it is important to keep it simple and focus on doing the things that make us feel good. Be aware of the world around you and what you are feeling. Reflecting on your experiences will help you appreciate what matters to you.

Try something new. Rediscover an old interest. Sign up for that course. Take on a different responsibility at work. Fix a bike. Learn to play an instrument or how to cook your favourite food. Learn te reo. Set a challenge you will enjoy achieving. Learning new things will make you more confident as well as being fun.

Do something nice for a friend, or a stranger. Thank someone. Smile. Volunteer your time. Join a community group. Look out, as well as in. Seeing yourself, and your happiness, linked to the wider community can be incredibly rewarding and creates connections with the people around you.
