Site/Chef Manager - Southern Cross Hospital, Hamilton

- Full time rostered Monday – Sunday (between 6am – 6.30pm)

Southern Cross Hamilton is a private short-stay surgical hospital based in Hamilton East that is committed to providing restaurant quality meals and catering for special dietary requirements on request.

Reporting to an Operations Manager, this role with the support of 4 staff, is responsible for providing meals for patients and morning tea and lunches for staff. You will be a hands-on leader actively involved in the cooking and service of all meals, the day-to-day running of the kitchen, and making our client smile!

Whilst your culinary knowledge, food preparation and cooking skills are critical in this role, you also need to be comfortable interacting with patients during room service, adept with the paperwork side of managing a kitchen such as ordering, rostering, health and food safety, and willing to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in with general kitchen duties when the need arises.

Our vision for the food service at this site is to really step it up and take hospital food to the next level.
To make this happen, we need an experienced and talented chef with relevant industry and supervisory experience, who can:
- Prepare, cook, and serve restaurant quality food for patients and staff
- Monitor quality of food at all stages of preparation and presentation
- Create menus to cater for varied dietary requirements
- Estimate food and labour costs, and manage within budget
- Discuss food preparation issues with managers and kitchen staff
- Demonstrate understanding of, and ability to implement New Zealand Food Control & Safety regulations
- Maintain a clean, tidy, safe and hazard free environment.
