Cater Plus Providing a Helping Hand

On Tuesday 4th August 2020, The Cater Plus Foundation partnered with Auckland’s Otara Kai Village to cook and donate 200 meals to local residents in need.
The meals were served from Cater Plus’s versatile food truck at Otara Kai Village’s eco hub in central Otara.
Otara Kai Village is a nonprofit charitable organisation whose goal is to alleviate food insecurity through “Kai, Connection and Creation.” The group is making healthy, affordable food more accessible in the community to allow people healthier food options closer to home.
Otara Kai Village is a vibrant and safe space for people to come together. It features a fruit and vegetable shop, space for a café, outdoor markets, and will soon open a communal garden. The group plan to host social workshops and events in areas including sustainability, gardening, and small business ownership. This will contribute to the health and wellbeing of the community, as well as increasing social and economic opportunities.
The Cater Plus Foundation has provided support for community and hospitality initiatives, like Otara Kai Village, since its formation in 2012. Other initiatives we support include interest-free loans for our staff in times of need, or to pursue personal, educational or cultural interests; funding for the Waikato Culinary Fare; donations for Foodbank Australia during 2019’s Bush Fires; and support for the McKenzie Centre who provide early intervention for children with special needs.
