Cater Plus is a locally owned and growing leader in the food service industry, operating in over 70 kitchens across New Zealand, and pleased to be the new service provider for a 45-bed aged residential care home in Taumarunui.

We are currently seeking an experienced chef to lead our small kitchen team. Reporting to a regional operations manager, you will be an experienced leader actively involved in the cooking and service of all meals, the day-to-day running of the kitchen, and making our client and their resident’s smile! You will bring the best out in your team as you encourage and lead them to get the job done well, challenge them to improve, as well as work together, value and support each other. To succeed you will need excellent communication skills and pride yourself on producing a consistent and delicious meal, time and time again.

To be successful in this position you will need to be able to:
- Prepare, cook, and serve wholesome food (including soft meals)
- Monitor quality of food at all stages of preparation and presentation
- Adapt menus to cater for varied dietary requirements
- Manage food and labour costs in line with budgets and order food supplies
- Discuss food preparation issues with managers and kitchen staff
- Advise kitchen staff on cooking procedures and techniques
- Demonstrate understanding of, and ability to implement New Zealand Food Control & safety regulations
- Maintain a clean, tidy, safe and hazard free environment.
- Complete daily management tasks, including:
o recording relevant meals and uploading this information to a company portal
o Handling internal and external emails
o Preparing monthly health and safety reports
o Ordering food in accordance with cycle menus
o Understanding and managing daily resident dietary needs
o Overall management of rosters and timesheets
o Managing interpersonal relationships

The ideal candidate will:
- Have excellent culinary and baking skills
- Having a clear understanding of profit and loss
- Be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Be friendly and engaging, with a desire to be a productive and positive member of the team
- Be passionate about good food, and great service
- Have good time management skills, excellent communication, and a flexible/can-do, committed attitude

Whilst this is intended to be a full-time role, we are open to considering alternative options for hours of work, so long as full coverage of the 7 day roster can be arranged.
