Chef – Te Hopai Home & Hospital (Newtown), Wellington

32 hours per week (4 days, rostered across 7 days)
Shifts: 5.30am – 2pm & 10am – 6.30pm

We are looking for a capable, reliable Chef to join our supportive team at Te Hopai Home and Hospital in Newtown. Here we cater for around 150 residents across a full range of aged care needs, providing wholesome, home style meals that make a real difference in daily life.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced chef who enjoys variety, and is seeking a role with purpose — without the pressure of late nights or high end restaurant service.

About the Role
With a set menu and well established processes, you’ll be a hands on chef responsible for the daily preparation, cooking, and serving of fresh, comforting meals. You’ll enjoy the rhythm of a busy kitchen and take pride in producing traditional favourites that our residents love.

To succeed in this role, you’ll be confident working independently and capable of managing a service for large groups. You’ll also:
• Prepare, cook, and serve wholesome, nutritious food
• Monitor food quality throughout preparation and service
• Adjust menus to meet residents’ dietary needs
• Communicate effectively with the Chef Manager and kitchen team
• Guide catering assistants in food preparation tasks
• Understand and follow NZ Food Control and Safety regulations
• Take responsibility as the sole chef on duty when rostered
• Maintain a clean, tidy, safe, and hazard free environment

About You
We’re looking for someone who brings:
• Strong communication skills and a positive, can do attitude
• A friendly, team oriented approach
• Passion for good food and great service
• Good time management and the ability to stay calm under pressure
• Experience in aged care OR at least 5 years in a fast paced kitchen preparing meals at scale (100+ servings)
