Chef - The Hub Cafe, Hamilton

We have a rare opening for a talented Chef to join our vibrant team at the Hub Café based at the Wintec City Campus. There is never a dull moment as the cafe is located in the middle of the action, you are part of the culture, music and diversity without being a student!

This position is on an educational contract, and so working weeks will be based around the tertiary term and summer breaks. You will need to be flexible to work public holidays throughout the year but can enjoy extended holidays over the summer months. There may be the possibility of work at other sites during this time if desired. The hours of work are:
Monday – Friday (6am – 1:30pm)

Your morning routine will consist of setting up the kitchen for the busy day ahead and then getting stuck into preparation of goodies to fill the cabinets and countertop. There will be breakfast to prepare and then on to cooking the lunch meal options. Our customers love variety of tasty, wholesome food which also includes several different salad options. This is very much a hands-on role where you will predominantly be in the kitchen but may need to serve meals or jump on the till from time to time.

This position requires a chef with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience who can:
- Prepare, cook, and serve wholesome food
- Cater for small on-site functions
- Monitor quality of food at all stages of preparation and presentation
- Adapt menus to cater for varied dietary requirements
- Estimate food and labour costs and order food supplies
- Discuss food preparation issues with managers and kitchen staff
- Advise kitchen staff on cooking procedures and techniques
- Demonstrate understanding of, and ability to implement New Zealand Food Control and safety regulations
- Maintain a clean, tidy, safe and hazard free environment.
