Cook – Boarding School, Southland

Monday to Thursday 4pm – 7pm (during term time)

We need you to help us deliver the best food service experience in the industry! At Southland Boys’ High School’s Coldstream Hostel our team caters for approximately 120 students who board during the school week, as well as regular school functions throughout the year. Our aim is to provide a home away from home with a delicious meal service that supports health and wellbeing and provides the fuel needed for success.

We have a part-time position available, working during term time only - perfect for someone seeking work/life balance with set shifts to fit around their other commitments and providing more time to spend with family and enjoy the sun.

What you’ll do:
• prepare food to menu requirements under the direction of a chef manager.
• take responsibility for finishing off and serving the evening meal, after the chef manager has finished for the day.
• ensure the kitchen is safe and hazard free by doing dishes, removing rubbish, and cleaning.
• support the chef with food preparation.
• assist with service and clearing away afterwards.
• top up supplies, help to keep the kitchen running smoothly, and left clean and tidy at the end of shift.

Who You Are:
• have bulk cooking experience, either within a commercial kitchen, or as an accomplished home cook.
• a flexible team player, with a committed attitude who can stay cool under pressure.
• friendly and engaging and enjoy making the students’ day by serving amazing meals.
• able to work safely in an industrial kitchen with large hot pots and trays.
• able to take initiative and be comfortable to work unsupervised when required.
