Site Manager - Craighead Diocesan School Boarding House Kitchen, Timaru

A rare vacancy has arrived for a talented Chef Manager to join Cater Plus and the family at Craighead Diocesan School Boarding House Kitchen, based in Timaru, two hours south of Christchurch.

In this multifaced role you will oversee the management of the food service, as well as the school cleaning and laundry services. With around a third of the student population boarding on site, our aim is to provide a home away from home environment with a delicious meal service that supports health and wellbeing. We will work closely with all stakeholders to ensure this vision is achieved. The kitchen also provides a variety of daily meal options for the onsite café which is available for day students and faculty staff.

While managing the boarding food service, you will also support the delivery of numerous functions held throughout the year, with numbers varying 20 to 300. This is your creative space, a zone for producing mesmerizing function food for school and public events. With the kitchen and serving area currently being refurbished, your first day will be in fresh, new space to truly make your own.

Enjoy the hands-on nature of this role, from designing student friendly menus to actively preparing the daily meals. You will work alongside your team, bringing out the best in them as you encourage and lead to get the job done well, challenge them to improve and value and support each other. In this role you will be responsible for 13 staff members.

This is a salary position reporting to our local Operations Manager. The role offers a work life balance providing a minimum of 40 hours working predominately Monday to Friday 10.00am to 6:00pm.

This position requires a chef with a minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience, who can:

Monitor quality of food at all stages of preparation and presentation
Deliver a high volume of healthy and nutritious meals daily
Design menus that are student friendly or relatable to the function brief
Portray an extensive knowledge of dietary requirements and ability to implement NZ food control and safety regulations
Inspire, train and manage a team of catering assistants, chefs and cleaning and laundry staff
Demonstrate great leadership and communication skills and computer literacy
Show an energetic manner and not afraid to roll up your sleeves and do the hard yards.
Demonstrate an ability to meet budgeted food and labour costs
