Ahmad Azemah’s Remarkable Journey: Cater Plus’ First Cookery Apprentice

We’re excited to celebrate a big milestone, Ahmad Azemah has officially become Cater Plus’ first-ever cookery apprentice!

Ahmad’s journey started nearly five years ago, right in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. He began in the dish pit at one of our busiest aged care sites, he quickly stood out for his work ethic, passion, and willingness to learn. He moved from washing dishes to food prep in no time, and soon found himself cooking meals for nearly 200 residents.

When the opportunity came up to join the Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre team, Ahmad didn’t hesitate. The role was especially meaningful, not only did it offer a chance to expand his skills and work alongside the passionate kitchen team we have there, but it was also the same place he once arrived at as a refugee himself. This full-circle moment only added extra motivation to his studies.

Supported by Chris Waghorn and mentored by Matt Shuker, Ahmad completed his apprenticeship modules while gaining hands-on experience across multiple Cater Plus kitchens. For his final assessment, he created and served a beautiful three-course meal for Cater Plus Founder Paul Hodge, CEO Craig Elder, and our wonderful clients Ahmad and Ko from the Mangere Refugee Centre.

Ahmad’s story is one of hard work, resilience, and grabbing every opportunity that comes your way. Becoming an apprentice while juggling work and study isn’t easy, but he has done it with excellence.

We’re incredibly proud of you, Ahmad. Congratulations on this well-earned achievement!
