Kamo Bowls Tournament

Kamo Bowls Tournament

Source - Kamo Bowls Club

Rain was forecast. The natural green was not going to be playable when wet so traditional sixes were out. Do we cancel? The options were discussed with the sponsors, "We are all in town and want to play bowls. Can you rearrange the program to suit? We want the show to go on."

The options were considered and the only one that would fit was progressive triples where half the entry sat out alternate games. The first group played their match and the first change over occurred for the rest of the field to play. As the second group finished their 60 minutes the heavens opened and within a very short time the green was flooded. So it was an early and extended lunch break. It took some time for the rain to pass and the surface to drain sufficiently for us to bowl but at about 1.30 we were able to get under way again with the first group out there.
It was like a festive event as there was considerable cheering and bantering from the sideline.

After each team had played their four games we finished with four teams on three wins and two on three wins and draw.
The two teams with the three wins and a draw both had records of W5, W6, D4, and W5 so it was back to nett points to decide the tie where one team had 24 and the other 14.

Thank you to the Hodge family and Cater Plus for sponsoring the day. While the weather was a challenge we all got in some bowls. We hope that the conditions are better for your next visit.
