Chef - Southern Cross Kitchen, Auckland

Working Monday – Friday (10:30am – 7:00pm) and Saturday (6am – 10am)

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated, reliable and experienced Chef who has a passion for food and is keen to take the next step in their career by joining our team.

Southern Cross Auckland Surgical Centre is a private short-stay surgical hospital based in Remuera that is committed to providing restaurant quality meals and catering for special dietary requirements on request. To make this happen, we need a motivated Chef who is passionate about food, and excellent service to support our Chef Manager.

This role, along with the Chef Manager, will be providing meals for 16 patients and lunches for up to 25-30 staff per day. You will be involved in all aspects of food preparation and service, along with keeping the kitchen clean and doing dishes. The successful candidate will need experience especially in producing both breakfast and dinner meals, baking and creating sandwiches.

Working Monday to Friday you will take sole charge for the dinner prep and service after the Chef Manager has finished for the day. This role requires someone who can take initiative, problem solve, and keep on top of the different quantities and dietary requirements of the residents. On Saturday you will take charge of breakfast service and preparation until the Chef Manager starts their day.

This position is a pivotal part of our team and requires a cook with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience who can:
- Prepare, cook and serving of a-la-carte restaurant quality food for patients and staff
- Show an interest in developing skills further
- Discuss food preparation issues with managers and kitchen staff
- Show knowledge of dietary requirements
- Monitor quality of food at all stages of preparation and presentation
- Maintain a clean, tidy, safe and hazard free environment
- Work at a high level without supervision
- Be friendly and engaging and know what it means to deliver outstanding customer service
