Floating Chef, Auckland

This isn’t your usual restaurant chef position! We have 29 kitchens and cafes throughout Auckland which range in cooking styles, service times and quantities. Whether it’s filling the cabinets at corporate cafeterias and staff canteens, catering for a function, providing a-la-carte restaurant quality meals at private hospitals, or bulk cooking of good wholesome meals for resthomes and boarding schools this role will keep you on your toes.

Working across our various in-house kitchens and café’s in Auckland to cover team members when on leave and training days, this position promises variety and challenge!

You will need to be adaptable and flexible, able to juggle multiple tasks at the same time, and thrive working across a range of settings. The challenge of this role is that no two days are the same – one day you are running a sole charge workplace cafeteria – cooking and serving customers, the next day you are working as part of a team preparing and serving food for a large resthome (and everything in between). This means you will be a good all-round cook/chef able to deliver wholesome meals, café style food, and bake cakes, slices, muffins, and scones.

This position is a pivotal part of our team, and requires a cook/chef with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position, who is able to:
- Prepare, cook, and serve a variety of cuisine
- Monitor quality of food at all stages of preparation and presentation
- Adapt menus to cater for varied dietary requirements
- Discuss food preparation issues with managers and kitchen staff
- Implement New Zealand Food Control and Safety regulations
- Maintain a clean, tidy, safe and hazard free environment
- Demonstrate great communication skills and moderate computer literacy
- Show a flexible, can-do, committed attitude
- Utilise great customer service skills
- Work 40 hours per week as and where rostered (Monday to Sunday)
- Travel to various sites across Auckland (car and drivers’ license required) – fuel allowance provided
